TORRITE

Known since medieval times for its thermal waters, Torrite is a small place located on the banks of  Turrite Secca 2 kms from the center of Castelnuovo and now incorporated in the urban area of the town. A typical bridge on the river Turrite connects the old  part of the suburb with the church of SS. Trinità SS. Pietro e Paolo. As evidence of the ancient settlement one can still see the remains of a small fortress. The village is dominated by the eighteenth-century Villa Bertagni.

From Torrite  fork some easy hiking trails to reach the Fortress Montalfonso , through the path of Ariosto or the small place of Sassi, across the mule track from Granciglia.
